 Bollywood Movie Analysis

Movie - Saaho

Saaho (2019) is a high-budget action thriller directed by Sujeeth, starting Prabhas Kapoor in the lead roles. The film is notable for its grand scale, impressive action sequences, and visual effects, but it received mixed reviews from  critics and audiences alike,

let we see analysis of this film..

➢Plot and Storyline

Saaho follows an intricate narrative with numerous twits and turns. The story revolves around a power struggle in the fictional Waaji City after the leader of a criminal syndicate is killed. Prabhas plays an undercover cop. Ashok Chakravarthy who is on a mission to find the perpetrators behind a large scale robbery while unraveling  the mystery of the syndicate's power struggle. Shraddha Kapoor plays Amritha Nair, a crime branch officer who becomes entangled in the plot.

The film attempts to blend multiple genres-action, thriller,, and romance-while delivering a complex narrative. However, many critics felt that the convoluted plot made it difficult to follow, and some of the twists seemed forced rather than organically integrated into the storyline.

➢Direction and Screenplay

Directer Sujeeth aimed for a grand spectacle, with influences  from HollyWood style action film. While the scale and ambition are commendable, the screenplay often falters in maintaining coherence. The non linear storytelling, combined with a plethora of characters, can be confusing for the audience.

Sujeeth direction emphasizes style over substance, with a focus on elaborate set pieces and high-octane action comes at the expense of character development and emotional depth.

➢Performance

Prabhas- After the massive success Baahubali, Prabhas'return to the screen in Saahowas highly anticipated. He delivers a charismatic performance, especially in action scenes, but his character lacks depth. The film relies heavily on his star power, but  the script does not fully capitalize on his potential.

Kapoor- Sharaddha Kapoor's roles is primarily supportive, and she does not have much scope to explore her character. While her performance is competent, her characters feels underdeveloped.

Supporting Cast- The supporting cast, including actors like Jackie Shroff, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and Chunky Pandey, add to the ensemble, but their characters are mostly one-dimensional and serve the plot rather than adding to the narrative complexity.

➢Action and Visual Effects

The action sequences are the highlight of Saaho. The film boasts high production values, with well- choreographed fight scenes, car chases, and shootouts. The use of CGI and visual effects is extensive, adding to the movie's grandeur. However, the over-reliance on action sometimes overshadows the storyline, making it feel more like a visual spectacle than a coherent narrative.

➢Music and Cinematography

The soundtrack, composed by multiple artists, is a mix of energetic tracks and romantic numbers, but none of the songs became particularly memorable. The background score by Ghibran helps elevate the tension in action scenes but does not leave a lasting impression.

Cinematography by R.Madhi is one of the film's strong points. The visual presentation is stylish, with  a mix of vibrant and dark tones that complement the film's themes of crime and deception.

➢Reception and Criticism

Saaho was met with mixed to negative reviews from critics. While the film was praised for its scale, action sequences, and technical achievements, it was criticized for its weak screenplay, lack pf coherent stoytelling, and underutilized performances. The film's runtime and pacing were also points of contention, with many feeling it was overly long and could have benefited from tighter editing.

➢Box Office Performance

Despite the mixed reviews. Saaho performed well at the box office, especially in its Hindi version. It capitalized on Prabhas immense popularity post Baahubali and the extensive marketing campaign. However the film's high production cost meant that its box office performance, while strong was not as overwhelmingly profitable as expected.

➢Conclusion

Saaho is a film that aims for spectacle and succeeds in delivering visually impressive action sequences. However  it struggles with its narrative and character development, making it a polarizing experience. Fans of action-packed thrillers may find it enjoyable, but those looking for a cohesive and engaging story might be left wanting more.
